Tettsui uchi (hammer fist strike)

Tettsui Uchi (hammer fist strike) seen in Shotokan Kata Heian Shodan

TETTSUI Uchi It's one of those punches that is not practiced with a lot of attention. Although it is seen very early in the forms of H. Shodan and Sandan.

THIS punch can also be used for blocking as well due to the circle created when performing the punch as seen in H. Shodan.

OR can be used when somebody is grabbing your wrist / arm — (pulling your arm in the circle) — again thanks to the circle and the way the punch works can defend against somebody grabbing very effectively.

OR when taking the person on the ground you can do this punch very very fast. In fact, this punch is used more and more nowadays in M.M.A.

SO– for those who practice Shotokan the punch is there to explore from a very early stage of the training.

There are so many combinations you can do with this punch 👊 👊 👊

THE punch can be combined with lots of other techniques such as blocks or kicks and hitting all parts of the body — to the head, belly, legs, knees, elbows, growing and so on…

The limit is only your imagination.

“Just REMEMBER practice makes perfect so if you don't practice – it will not work. Train the technique well next time you are in the dojo”

Another advantage to this punch – is that there are no knuckles involved.

There is nothing to break — it's strong and unbreakable — might hurt a little bit at the end but nothing will break and that's a good thing 😜 😁 Usu
