Nihon nukite
NIHON NUKITE
Seen in Kata CHINTE
Among one of the rarest hand positions in Shotokan Karate, NIHON NUKITE is only seen four times in any Shotokan Kata, all of which are found within CHINTE.
In the ninth volume of Nakayama Sensei’s BEST KARATE series two of these are described as UCHI-UKE (Inside Block) and the other two described as AGE-ZUKI (Rising Stab / Thrust).
Among Shotokan enthusiasts there are two common methods of creating NIHON NUKITE.
The contemporary version (Pictured above) is to attach the thumb to the bent ring finger to create structural support, while exposing the two attacking points.
The second method keeps the palm open and flat allowing the practitioner to use an initial or follow up strike with Teisho (Palm Heel).
Perhaps the key point to successfully employ this technique is to understand that humans have an innate reflex to protect the eyes. The rising trajectory in movement #22 & #24 of CHINTE, keeps the strike below the eye line and hidden before executing. In addition the hand formation described secondly allows for an initial strike to the chin with the palm heel controlling the head before executing the NIHON NUKITE.
HOW
TO
USE
The
Technique
⟩. The technique is designed to primary attack the eyes
⟩. Can be executed to the front of the neck pressing hard
⟩. Can be used to put the fingers on the opponents nose and pull the person down on the ground from behind
⟩. The techniques can also be used to grab the growings with a two fingers and then open the hands and pull hard towards you
In Karate although this technique appears in the Kata it's not much explain during the training. Perhaps a mistake because in real dangerous situation this technique actually can be put to a very good use.
