My Karate Club Q&A
🥋 My Karate Club – Q&A
Common Questions about Classes at Shotokan Fitness Karate School, London
👕 General Questions
Q: What should I wear for my first trial class?
A: Sports clothing is fine. Just remember, it’s a Karate class—not a beach run—so please dress appropriately.
Q: Why do I need to pay for a trial class?
A: We charge to avoid overcrowding and to ensure we can look after you properly. That said, there’s a free class included each week. From experience, people who are serious about learning don’t mind a small trial fee.
Q: Can I book a trial class in advance?
A: You can only book within the current week for trial classes and adult pay-as-you-go sessions.
Q: If I miss my class, can I use the fee for another time?
A: Unfortunately, no. Once you book, we reserve a spot just for you.
Q: Can I book again in the future?
A: Yes—subject to availability.
Q: Can I watch a class instead of participating?
A: No. For health and safety reasons—and based on our experience—watching doesn’t offer the same value. People who watch often don’t join. Those who try, stay.
Tip: Check out our social media channels for videos and insights.
Q: Is one week of trial enough to know if Karate is right for me?
A: Not really. You might have a good or bad experience in your first week. We recommend training for at least 6 months before deciding if Karate is for you.
🧑🦱 Adult Classes
Q: I’m a beginner—can I still join?
A: Yes, absolutely. Karate is for everyone.
Q: Isn’t Karate just for kids?
A: Not at all. Karate was originally developed for adults as a form of self-defense. While many children practice it today, it’s equally valuable—and perhaps more relevant—for adults.
Q: Am I too old to start?
A: You’re never too old. Our students range from 5 to over 60 years old.
Q: I have no martial arts experience. Can I still join?
A: No problem at all. Sometimes having no prior experience is an advantage. You may find yourself even more inspired.
Q: I’m not as fast or fit as others—should I be concerned?
A: Not at all. Everyone learns at their own pace. We repeat techniques multiple times and adapt for all skill levels.
Q: Is Karate a casual activity I can do now and then?
A: No. Karate requires commitment and consistency. It’s a way of life—there are no shortcuts.
Q: I’m an experienced Karate student—can I still benefit?
A: Yes. We adapt based on your ability and goals. It all depends on what you’re looking for.
🛡️ Self-Defense & Fitness
Q: Is Karate good for self-defense?
A: Yes. Karate is built around self-defense principles—both physical and mental.
Q: How soon can I defend myself?
A: It depends on your dedication—just like asking how fast a child learns to walk.
Q: Will I get fit doing Karate?
A: Yes. Karate involves full-body movement and is an excellent way to get and stay fit—if you commit to the training.
🩺 Safety & Health
Q: Is Karate safe?
A: Generally, yes. But like any physical activity involving kicks, punches, and movement—there is some risk involved.
Q: I have a medical condition—can I still join?
A: It depends. Karate can be intense. You should be physically and mentally fit to participate. Please consult your doctor before joining.
