Karate is important to me because it gives me a safe environment to truly express myself. It’s not just about self-defence—although that’s a big part of it—but it also improves my health, and most importantly, it's fun and exciting!
Through Karate, I’ve learned discipline, respect, and duty. These values have shaped me into a better person. I can't thank my Sensei enough for giving me this opportunity. Without his guidance, I would not have been able to push myself beyond my limits.
How Karate Benefits Me
Karate benefits me in many ways, both physically and mentally. On the physical side, it keeps me fit through a mix of cardio, muscle training, and technique drills. On the mental side, it makes me feel happier and more balanced, even outside the dojo.
It also helps me develop important life skills such as communication, leadership, and tactical thinking.
Communication
Thanks to our club’s philosophy and training style, we are always encouraged to communicate with each other openly and respectfully. In the dojo, we don’t choose who we train with. We train with everyone. Respect isn’t optional—it’s expected, and communication is a key part of that.
I've learned that speaking with others, even if they are different from me, is the best way to earn their respect and grow together. If we avoid communication, we miss out on valuable opportunities to connect and improve.
Tactical Skills
Although Karate doesn’t rely on long-term planning in a fight, it trains you to make quick, decisive movements under pressure. That’s a tactical skill in itself—and it’s one I continue to develop through every session.
Thanks to Sensei’s belief in allowing us to take responsibility, I’ve had the chance to lead short parts of classes under his supervision. This experience has boosted my confidence and encouraged me to train harder. It’s helped me grow as both a student and a young leader.
Karate teaches respect—not just in words, but in action. Through training, I’ve learned about hard work, determination, and what it means to give your best, every time.
I know that as a junior Black Belt, my journey has just begun. It’s time to leave one chapter behind and move on to the next—and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
Until next time, thank you for reading. Keep training hard.
