Dojo Announcement

Dear students,

Oss 🙏 Here are some important updates for the coming weeks.

Kata Club Competition

Saturday 20th and/or Sunday 21st June

(For more info  check out the Google Doc link sent to you)

Pre-Grading

Technically we are on pre-grading period.

As we will be holding a Kata Competition, this will automatically form part of the pre-grading assessment process.

Grading

The next grading will take place on 28th  of June 26 for those students who are ready and eligible to grade.

Sparring Evaluation

Saturday 4th of July

At the Porchester Centre

We will let you know your group and attendance time shortly.

What Equipment Do You Need?

As a minimum, all students must have:

  • Gloves

  • Mouthguard (gum shield)

  • Head guard 🪖

Additional protective equipment is optional but recommended:

  • Shin guards

  • Knee and elbow protection

  • Groin protection

  • Chest protection

Students may purchase their equipment from any martial arts supplier, Amazon, or other retailers. You do not need to purchase equipment from me. (To be clear I don't provide any equipments)

What Is This Evaluation About?

The sparring evaluation is designed to assess students' offensive and defensive sparring skills and to measure their understanding and application of techniques.

Students will be matched as closely as possible according to age and ability. Matches will last approximately 2–3 minutes, similar to a karate competition format.

This is another opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge, show their progress, and identify areas that require further improvement.

Practical Self-Defence Assessment

Saturday 11th  of July

At the Porchester Centre

Students will be assessed on their understanding of:

  • Leg locks

  • Headlocks

  • Takedowns

  • Hold-downs

  • Defences against headlocks, leg locks, and other techniques

The purpose of this session is to allow students to demonstrate what they have learned and retained from previous training sessions.

Expectations will vary according to the student's age, grade, and experience. The instructor will provide feedback to help each student continue improving.

This format is something we aim to maintain each term to help monitor and support student development and progress.

Thank you for your attention, and we look forward to seeing you in the dojo soon.
